Calypso — nymph of the island of Ogygia, daughter of Atlas. She kept Odysseus for seven years, offering him immortality if he would stay. He chose home instead.
It is one of the most remarkable decisions in all of literature. The Boeotian shield takes its name from the region of Greece that bore it into battle — one of the ancient world's most distinctive shields.
The bee makes honey and guards it fiercely. Calypso offered Odysseus everything — eternal life, eternal love, an island at the edge of the world. The sweetest honey trap ever laid. He still said no.
